Although starting a photography business 1 year before a global pandemic wasn’t what I had in mind, I decided to offer porch sessions to capture this time at home for families in our area as a partner to fundraise for the local food bank. I did not know I was going to photograph a high school senior for one porch session, but when I drove up to the beautiful property, I was greeted by a mom and her son, Leo. Fast forward a year and they called me to do a senior session for their daughter, Lilly. We chose Maymont because spring blooms had popped and it’s one of my favorite locations to shoot especially on non-crowded weeknights. Lilly is a breath takingly beautiful lady. She did her own hair and makeup and did such a good job! When I complimented her on her dress (isn’t it awesome?!?) she told me she found it thrifting and we chatted about our common love for finding a good consignment piece. I am personally more of an online thrifter, via Poshmark, but she and her friends liked to go to local stores. Well done here, Lilly!

She is so natural in front of the camera. You can see her laid back style.

Although I loved Lilly’s shoes, we decided it was not only going to be easier to walk through the grass without them, but it really was more appropriate for her garden vibe.

Although it’s hard to choose, I think this is my favorite portrait from our session. I will always try and find flowers since I love them so I was excited to see this FULL clematis! Guess what the clematis is growing on? A pig pen. Seriously. It didn’t smell good over there, but as you can see, Lilly didn’t mind.

This one makes me happy.

Lilly had recently cut her hair a significant amount before our session, and I think it looks amazing. Especially now it shows off the details of her dress and her beautiful skin.

I have had dogs my whole life, and my family always names our dogs with people names. For years we would choose names from Beatles songs, but we sort of ran out of names over time. Guess what this cutie’s name is?? TED! I think he is totally owning that one. I love it.

We were very careful to make sure with Ted’s energy that he was safe. We weren’t really close to a busy road, but we were still careful. So, he was on a leash and dressed in a spawtacular outfit.

Yep, if there are flowers, I’m going to find them.

Rain was headed in and the sky started to get gray. Unphased, supermodel Lilly carried on and we created some stunning portraits.

This is another favorite portrait from our session. Shocker, no flowers?! Well, actually her lace dress has them, but I didn’t plan that. I loved this session and it’s always bittersweet to leave a senior session when they are college bound and not a senior client of mine anymore. I look forward to meeting more of you out there though! Come have some fun with me to create together.
